Contemplative Art Classes are fun, playful, wild, and nurturing of the creative impulse! If you're ready to practice making bold choices and awaken a richer sense of presence in your life, join me for a day, a series or a retreat and experience the process!

These offerings are Open to All, regardless of experience with the arts or spiritual (or any other) orientation. All offerings are inter-spiritual, open to all paths, including none and the unnamed. My work is rooted in the belief that creativity is a birthright responsibility, an important facet of the human creature and it's ability to heal itself and fully participate in the world, and therefore the sacred. The creative process generates renewable energy and invitation for deeper connection, and the potential for encountering the sacred as always present. When combined with elements of monastic practice: discipline, sustainability, contemplation and community - creativity has the potential to continually transform the individual, and also the world. The intention of playing with both contemplation and creativity simultaneously is to be still enough to hear the voice of the body, inner self and greater mysteries -- and -- to be activated enough by creative process to move what is heard from inside to outside. The contemplative elements are introduced with an open invitation, and can be abandoned at anytime by the participant.

It felt great to be supported not only as an artist, but as a spiritual being as well
— Lauren

Simply put ... Making art is enough!

This class created a space for me to look deeply at myself. I was able to explore through the paint the different expressions of me in space, color and texture. The contemplative process has made me realize that doing anything with expectations or “results” is not nearly as rewarding as following the process. In the case of self portraiture and self reflections, instead of trying to fit myself into and image of what I think I should be, I accept what is and allow my true self to shine.
Meg is a true inspirator. I have attended both her voice classes and her art classes and am always amazed at her passion to teach and connect people to their deeper selves and to each other.
— Sabine
The minute I started this class, an inner awakening occurred. My body felt different, my voice became clearer and more certain, and my heart noticed it’s restrictions and allowed them to let go. When you take the time to look at yourself and put brush to paint to paper, you are giving yourself permission to Be without judgement. And there are so many lessons in that. This class teaches those lessons, guiding you closer to your truest Self.
In order to take this class, it is encouraged that you trust Meghan’s immense power as a healer, supporter, and friend. Indulge!

Meg has been an excellent guide through this journey. I am just beginning artistic endeavors, especially painting, and this was a perfect introduction. It wasn’t like a typical art class. We worked through aspects of mindfulness, breathing, how to be considerate when checking in with one another. I hope to carry over the visual practice and expression that I’ve started here, along with the other practices of tuning into my being. The physicality of it feels delicious, and the exercises we did really enhanced my experience. It (all) feels vital and rich, deep. (This class) has deepened my joy and gratitude. It’s been fantastic!
— Jessica Woodbury 2013
The contemplative portraiture class offered me an opportunity turn inward and be present with my spirit in a warm, accepting and safe community setting. The ability to go inward is facilitated by our opening meditation and contemplative exercises which prime participants for connection with the divine during the creative process. In our early classes I appreciated encouragement to play and experiment with new materials and varying techniques. In later sessions I appreciated being pushed to go outside of my comfort zone, to take a risk, to just do, to be in the moment. Meghan strikes a perfect balance of offering technical support and feedback while reflecting the divine essence of the artwork’s marks and content. Each week when I returned to my portrait more and more was revealed to me about the workings of my inner world as it relates to my community, my environment, the spiritual realm and my heritage.

I gained an understanding of movement as a medium in the creative process. Breath, sound, softness, slightness and heaviness all have a place and produce different outcomes — a fabulous tool, this awareness. I look forward to producing more art with this understanding. I’m excited to see what comes up and out.

This class is valuable — The approach seeks to identify and solidify your unique and individual relationships with the medicine that exists in the concepts of direction, element, color. I loved the gentle challenge of learning to be open to my valuable knowledge and insight and allow myself to use it as valid application in my creative process.
— MOTW Student 2017
Through Mark of the Wild, I received medicine to nurture myself, my practice and my child. Fire brought transformation. Water brought purification and blessings. Earth brought connections and the pulse of life and Air brought expansion and movement.
— Alicia Ethridge 2013
Starting with breath and ending with space for exploration, expression, working in all the elements felt like we could hold the universe in this class. I loved becoming a “mark investigator.” Looking for what moves in in my own life helped me move more deeply into my life - beware of what one may find - but also hold it with the whimsy of a creative. I got to explore and express curiosity, frustration, hopelessness, awe, connection, disconnection - and few places these days provide venues for such a wide range of exploration.
My first art class and it will inspire the work I do on my own - and has. I look forward to bringing more curiosity and allowing more space for expression in my own art explorations thanks to this class.

Take Away’s from the Mark of the Wild class:

- Working on a piece by having it in my consciousness as I am out in the world - an ongoing relationship with an art piece/project.
- Confidence to turn and idea (nebulous) into a project (tactile)
- Integrating my time in nature with art/ my artistic expression
- New use of materials
- Inspiration to encourage others to participate in artistic ideas together

Thank you for your excellence in teaching! I am finding your style of teaching extremely valuable!

This class was at a perfect time in my life, as I was feeling Very lost - and after 6 weeks I have some tools for direction. I enjoyed the birch bark burning practice, and hope to incorporate that into my spiritual practice. A take away is: artistically giving myself time and space to listen to myself and my body as part of my painting practice.
